As homework plays a vital part in your child’s progress in school, the following policy has been formulated in St. Oliver Plunkett N.S.
- All children from 1st to 6th class will take down their homework in a journal each day except Friday.
- Homework is based on work that has been done in the classroom. It is based on concepts or ideas that have already been covered. It is essential for children to commit certain facts to memory, e.g. tables, spellings, poetry, prayers and it is important that these should be revised regularly at home as directed by the teacher.
- If a child has a genuine reason for not completing his/her homework or is experiencing difficulty please notify the teacher in the space provided for parent comment in the school journal.
Approximate times your child should spend on homework each evening:
| Junior Infants & Senior Infants | 10 to 15 minutes |
| First Class & Second Class | 15 to 25 minutes |
| Third & Fourth Class | 30 minutes to 40 minutes |
| Fifth Class & Sixth Class | 45 minutes to 60 minutes |
No homework on Fridays.
