St. Oliver Plunkett's National School in Loughmourne, replaced Carrickatee, Aghmakerr, Kilkitt, Laggan and Laragh.
The school was built in 1977 and is situated in a pleasant, rural setting. It is a Catholic School for both girls and boys from four years to twelve years of age. The enrolment in the school at present is 258 children. There are 21 teachers and 14 Special Needs Assistants.
In 2007 the school was invited by the Department of Education and Science to engage in a new development, which was the setting up of a class for Autism within our mainstream school. For some time it was the only Autism class to cater for the south Monaghan area.
In June 2012, Most Reverend Liam S. Mc Daid D.D. Bishop of Clogher officially launched the class.
